Re: city of gardens

Speaking for myself, my top choices would be (1) somewhere I haven't
been and (2) based on my current interests and (3) gardens not
normally open to the public. I'd make it for a couple weeks, more or
less, to allow for 2 weekends of garden tours.

For example, to appeal to a wide range of gardeners, you could choose
something like the Los Angeles area in the spring for the Huntington
and other public gardens, tours of a few wholesale nurseries (and
maybe an organic farm or a garden-art supplier) not normally open to
the public, and, especially, some private garden tours (such as the
one of eccentric Venice gardens). Plus the option of going up to
Santa Barbara to see Lotusland and the SB Botanic Garden and maybe a
tour or two there, or a trip to the Channel Islands. And maybe a day
or so of a hort conference or class.

Or somewhere in the southern hemisphere for the winter -- a better
time for most gardeners, because it would not involve leaving their
own gardens at a busy time, and it would be a treat to visit a warm
place. New Zealand? Australia? South Africa?

But I think the real enticement would be meeting local gardeners,
seeing local gardens that you wouldn't get the chance to see on a
typical tour, and getting a sense of what is special about the
plants that are native to that place.
