Re: Benefits of gardening for kids
Lois, if persuasion and/or scientific argument fail,? Deb Brodhecker may want to have someone (a parent?) call the local newspaper and TV station and tell them that the management of the NJ State Fair grounds is planning to take a vegetable garden away from the children who grow things there because they consider it "too messy." I don't think the idea of depriving children of healthy outdoor activity would go over too well with a public that has been hearing about nature-deprived children for several years now, especially with the enormous popularity of vegetable gardening this year. Deb might also show the committee a copy of Richard Louv's "Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature Deficit Disorder."
