Re comment: "agents cost money."
Not so (altho common misconception). Agents work on commission - they
make their money when they sell your book to a publisher. Any agent who
asks YOU for money is disreputable, and you want nothing to do with them.
Small exception: it is common, and perfectly valid, for agents to ask you
to reimburse them for out-of-pocket costs associated with submitting your
manuscript,  such as postage and photocopying. But that's it.
