I too loved The Brother Gardeners. Fascinating book and extremely well 
written.
For a fun stocking stuffer, I really like the garden stakes made by 
David Howell Company: www.davidhowell.com/cat-25-1-9/GARDEN_STAKES.htm. 
My favorites are the herb ones.
To blow my own horn, for anyone with a swimming pool that needs a 
gardener's loving touch, I recommend my book Poolscaping: Gardening and 
Landscaping Around Your Swimming Pool and Spa, published by Storey. Here

photographs cataloged by topic (garden accents, garden habitats, etc.) 
to spark ideas to implement in other spaces. It's also includes a 
helpful overview of garden design principles.
