IPM is a wonderful commercial technique, but I don't believe it is appropriate to the home landscape nor for the average homeowner. 

Well Jeff, I disagree.  I think that the concept of IPM is easily communicated and easily understood by nearly every gardener, proof of which is that 99% of the gardeners I talk with tell me that they work hard at limiting their use of toxic materials and synthetic fertilizers in their gardens.  To a person, they want to know how to address their problems without spraying, dusting, etc.  Our jobs as garden communicators, is to assess our audiences' level of understanding and then figure out how to translate the technical information in a way that is appropriate.  To expect less is to insult their intelligence and fails to provide them information they want.

Now if you want to talk about EPM, ecological pest management, then you are on to something for the home gardener. 

I'd still like to understand your definition of EPM...  I wonder if you define EPM the way I define IPM...
