Thanks for the excellent explanation.  I totally agree that the bulk of
homeowners are yardeners.  I have been writing for them for the last 7 years
at Woman's Day without knowing it.  Your definition is exactly what our
demographic studies tell us.  I'm printing out your email and taping it to
my bulletin board next to the computer.  It's an terrific reminder of how to
slant writing to aid the broadest spectrum of people.
