Doreen,
    When I was a farmer, this happened to me all the time. Restaurants would
not pay for the produce they "bought." After watching a few go out of
business and others simply try to ignore me, I learned to fill out the
appropriate paperwork for small claims court. I don't know if this works
from one state to another, but if it does, you might find it effective. It
always brought swift results.

    You can always threaten them with exposure, too. Let them know that you
will inform other writers that they have not paid you.
