Re: HELP--MOLES
In England they pay vast amounts of money to aereate the soil; over here the
moles do it for free. Moles use the tunnels they dig only once, and they dig
the tunnels in their urge to find meat as they are carnivores and do not eat
plants. When they are gone, other animals including voles use the tunnels.
If you suddenly have that many moles (which is very strange in itself, as
they must continually eat to stay alive), they are doing something for you
that you couldn't do yourself: They are killing garden enemies. Why not get
a pair of those spikes that tie onto shoes, and when you see a tunnel, stamp
it down with some grass-seed and net year have a better lawn. Forget castor
oil, too. It wasn't very good for you as a child, and it certainly isn't a
good thing to add to the soil. I live in this country and continue to
wonder: Why is the immediate solution to anything involve killing? Finally,
I have rarely met anybody involved in contract maintenance who knows much
about anything! Peter Loewer
