Doug,
your damning letter is further proof that the US is guarding the wrong border. What would your takeover entail?
Nothing serious - language lessons to begin with. Every US citizen would have to demonstrate an ability to say "eh?" at the end of each sentence.

Your money would have to change. Too darned boring - let's get some colour in there so we can tell the difference between a one and a ten. You'd have to understand that we don't call our dollar a "loonie" because its got a loon on it but rather because its supported by politicians.

We'd import the Florida weather up to Canada - that's a non-negotiable. We'll simply add ours to Minnesota and nobody will notice the difference.

You'd have to agree that democracy means the person with the most votes wins. We'd introduce a real technological improvement to your system - the pencil. Marks a ballot like nothing else on this planet.

We'd teach you how to brew real beer. Hey - what are friends for - eh? (see how its done?)

Hockey as the national pastime? Mandatory toques? Back bacon in every skillet?
Yes, and your point is....

Come to think of it, though, Canadians can legally smoke Cuban cigars -- and soon, perhaps, even more interesting stuff.
Heck, they had a "pot-in" in front of the local police station last weekend where everyone toked up (true) 150 stoned folks protesting something or other - forget what now but it was crystal clear at the time.

Maybe we can work something out.

Dr. Friel - its a takeover - you don't got a choice!

As always, glad to clarify a muddified situation.
