For anyone within travel distance of
Hamilton, Ont., (about an hour west of Toronto, for those of you south of the
border), here's info on a couple of workshops to be held at Royal Botanical
Gardens in mid October. Presenters include Julie Moir
Messervy who designed Toronto's 3-acre harbourfront
Music Garden, on which she collaborated with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, as well as
landscape architect Virginia Burt and Karen York, author of The Holistic Garden

Two Day-Long Workshops At Royal Botanical
Gardens Royal Botanical Gardens presents an
exclusive opportunity for home gardeners and professional landscape designers to
learn how to create personal, tranquil garden spaces in two day-long workshops
on October 19 and 20. ·
Beyond Colour in the Garden: Restoring Health and Mind,
October 19 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at RBG Centre, features an exciting roster
of internationally renowned garden design experts who provide insight into
creating restful garden spaces for contemplation and tranquility. Julie Moir
Messervy, who holds masters degrees in architecture and city planning and has
written three garden design books, speaks about transforming home gardens into
sanctuaries. Virginia Burt, a landscape architect and principal of Visionscapes
Landscape Architects Inc., discusses how a labyrinth is used for many healing
and creative approaches in public and private gardens. And, Karen York, author
of Holistic Garden: Creating Spaces for Health and Healing, provides insight
into how a home garden can become a healing space. Beyond Colour in the Garden:
Restoring Health and Mind is geared toward anyone interested in gardening and
landscape design. An optional lunch box is available. ·
Well-known landscape designer and author Julie Moir
Messervy, explores the process of designing individual landscapes in Creating
Inspired Gardens, a workshop for professional landscapers and designers, on
Monday, October 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop includes hands-on
exercises and drawing sessions to help professional landscape designers
translate their clients desires into physical form. Participants receive a
certificate upon completion of the workshop. Lunch is
provided. Beyond Colour in the Garden: Restoring
Health and Mind is $65 for Royal Botanical Gardens members and $75 for
non-members (plus an optional $10 charge for lunch box).
Creating Inspired Gardens is $180 for Gardens
members and $200 for non-members. Lunch is included. Participants must register by October 10.
