Re: Looking for home gardeners

  Miriam,
In my area the advice is given by consultants such as myself and the help is provided by landscapers. (I don't use the term "garden coach" because most of my clients are 60+ and they associate "coach" with someone who will stand and blow a whistle at them. "Come on, Baker, pull those weeds! Hustle! Hustle! Hustle!" Landscapers in this area charge between $30. and $65. per hour and the crews depend heavily on a roving population of young people and foreign workers. Many with the organizational abilities to run a landscaping company spend must of their time keeping the crews directed.

It sounds like you are starting a franchise for landscapers. This has been done with lawn care (Chem-Lawn, Lawn Doctor, Safe Lawns etc) but to my knowledge hasn't been done with landscaping, at least in my aera. You'd need a "hook" to hang it on - something that people would recognize as being valuable over and above a local landscaper. There is probably plenty of literature on starting a franchise.

The first question from everyone - both the landscapers and the customers - will be "What's in it for me?"

all the best,
C.L.
