List still active?

Is the garden writers' list still active?  Or have selected people 
left to form another list?  A private one.  I have not seen this 
listed in Netiquette posts, but it seems to me that it would be more 
courteous to contact those specific people you want on a list than to 
broadcast to the old list that you're forming a new one and giving 
instructions on how to join.  Then summarily reject applications, 
offering no reason.  Margaret Lauterbach
