Electronic Rights?

When a publisher refers to Electronic licensing rights and sends a reasonable sounding agreement is it established what that includes. Is it ebooks or ebooks plus the right to offer print on demand? As they say these are uncharted waters and I'd hate to have a book  considered forever  in print only because of print on demand and ebooks. Anyone else encountered this.
