GWA does have book stickers. They may be just for Gold awards, but I'd be happy to check on that.
I think the ideas presented for multimedia presentations are excellent. I don't see why that can't be done.
I do know that the committee and GWA HQ have talked with lots and lots of other organizations over the years about their programs and how they work, etc. We've come up with some good ideas but many of the programs are much smaller than ours or more high-level (a mystery Edgar is equal to our Golds or our previous Best of the Year). James Beard uses commercial sponsors, I think.
We have had publicity in PW about the garden awards, but the timing often doesn't mesh well since our judging is held in March and the spring garden publicity comes then or early April.
Why not move the judging earlier? Well, we have and it often snows in DC, throwing a huge spanner into the works (judges can't get there, can't get home, etc.). And it means that you're trying to get people to enter over the December holidays, which is always problematic.
We really need a dedicated publicity committee willing to work on all aspects of this. At least one year that I was involved, we did have active publicity and it made quite a bit of difference (I think the effects of PR are often cumulative). But few have time for such a big volunteer job and I don't know about GWA taking that out of the general budget. (The budget for the committee pays for the judging process and that's it.)
I don't know the state of the organization's finances and what the Executive Committee is addressing as priorities, so I don't know if this is something the group wants to spend money on or not.
Having been closely involved several times over the years, I feel it's important. It publicizes not only the winners but the group as well. But as I recall, last year people on this list were arguing that the awards ought to be done away with; they weren't helpful and cost too much.
