Re: crinum lily

Subject: [GWL] crinum lily

Any ever grown this lily in a pot in USDA Zone 5? If so, would it be grown
more like a houseplant, such as clivia, or should it be allowed to go
dormant in my basement like eucomis?

I grow tons of them in pots, try to give them away but I've run out of
people who will take them. (If you have one, you will soot have dozens.) I
let them get a hard frost and stick them in the basement. One I didn't get
around to bringing out until mid-July. It bloomed anyway.

I also grow them in the ground, digging them in late fall. I don't recommend
this unless you have a strong back. I wrote a haiku about it:

Crinums hate the spade.
They do not like to be dug.
My hernia grows.
