The glass bowl is perfect, _if_ you can find the nest opening, after
sundown, without getting stung. A 300-400 lumen LED flashlight would be
useful and proper protective clothing. An alternative to the glass bowl or
foam is spray foam house insulation. The light duty kind is available at
the box stores but they will be able to tunnel through this eventually. The
heavy waterproof kind is, I think, by GE and is sold by Ferguson plumbing
supplies. The aerosol cans come with a long straw. I would use this type,
close off the opening then blanket the whole pile. They will not have time
to create new access to the outside before needing water. After one or more
applications (to plug any unseen access points) they should be gone. I used
a garden hose with long extension (two attached to each other) and high
pressure nozzle to evacuate a smaller colony in dirt in a garden bed. This
could be easy to do in the evening. The size of the colony makes all the
difference in ease of eradication.
