Dearest Mary,
If the black band on the bottom of your screen has disappeared, open the
little door on the monitor and you will see various buttons or knobs that
regulate where the picture is on the tv. Fiddle with them a little and see
if that brings the picture back to where you can see the 'start" button. I
had a similar problem some time ago, except it was the side that had
disappeared.
