Since most Hosta "species" are polyploids there might be unstable regions of
expression in the DNA or a faulty mechanism in the transcription in the
plastogenes or localized region on said genes.
To me it appears that most sports occur from those plants that are already
sports and that Most Hosta are stable. Since most Hosta in cultivation are
the result of interspecific crosses, some were a mutation in the expression
of the plastogenes has occurred.
Do the natraly occuring species of Hosta show the same degree of sporting?
Do some interspecific crosses produce more sports than others?
