Sports can arise different ways
1.green changing to variegated it is a sport due to a mutation
2.yellow changing to variegated it is a sport due to mititic
recombination ( the same is true for blue changing to green)
3.variegation changing to another variegation or to green or to
yellow is a sport due to chimeral rearrangment
4 there are other more rare possibilities
I agree there are big differences between species but also between different
cultivars in the frequency of mutation. If you tc a green one what
is the frequency of mutation? Even in hosta this is low, I suppose.
Can you give any example of plants that give 75-100% sports that are not
due to chimeral rearraggements?
