Chick,

Typical Fluorescent lights are maybe only 80% efficient so while you are getting 80 watts of light from two 40 watt bulbs, additional energy is required for the ballast (your electricity is providing heat as well). If you take your equation and divide by 0.80, you will be closer to the real cost.

(40x32x24/1000x.08)/0.80=$3.07 per day.

Maybe you should sell your extra seed instead of growing them...could make up the difference.

Cost for lights:

watts x lights x hours / 1000 x cost per kilowatt hour.  For me, with 16 two
light fixtures that comes out to:

40x32x24/1000x.08=$2.46 per day.
