Beth Norm and Monty, I have been following you post on flower scapes before
leaves. I believe there are other factors also involved. From observation of
things that have been happening over the past few years, I have thought that
breaking dormancy at a rapid rate may sometimes cause this. Several
seedlings that have never been divided, especially last spring when our
temperature suddenly reached 90 mark, had only flower scapes. A few even had
the leaves up and down the scapes.
At this time I have a few examples of this very thing on plants brought
inside and placed under lights in a warm area without allowing a slow warming
period.
This is just for thought. I have no real information to support my idea.
Mary
