Wye Oak

Maryland lost a great tree last night. The Wye
Oak was the largest white oak in Maryland and one
of the largest in the US. The tree was 104 ft
tall and 32 ft in circumference and was estimated
to be more than 460 years old.
The white oak species was designated as
Maryland's official state tree in 1941.

I was fortunate to have seen the Wye Oak when it
was standing.
