Please don't beat up on me for cruelty to animals, but one way to turn the
little critters away is with cayenne pepper. There is an available bird
food additive called "Squirrel Away" and it is nothing but cayenne. I've
advised many customers to buy a large container at a bulk food store and use
it when bothered by a critter with mucous membranes (birds love the pepper).
