Spring flowering bulbs
Heuchera
Small Carexes (C. pendula can become a bit invasive though)
Pulmonaria
Ophiopogon
Liriope
Digitalis
Viola
Astilbe
Cimicifuga
Ligularia
Anemone
Underplantings:
Ajuga
Lysimachia nummularia
Lamium maculatum Cultivars (eg White Nancy)
Ranunculus ficarius
