Thank you for the response. I may have been misunderstood.
I did not at all intend to defend Al Gore. I, too, believe that he
is egotistical and that it was largely that ego which defeated(?) him.
But he did not say "my friend the greatest president ever." You
see, that is what I mean by distortions. What he said was that history
would recognize Clinton as ONE of our greatest presidents. I wish
I had the exact quote, but I am sure of the "one of " part. And yes,
he did lie often in ways intended to embellish his importance. I
had a theory about that, but it was used by Jacob Weisberg in an article
in Slate Magazine entitled "Why Gore (Probably) Lost." The article
appeared about a week ago and I think you would find it interesting.
I hasten to add that it is not a flattering article.
Sorry, but I grit my teeth when I hear or read something that distorts
and presents a different (even if only slightly different) meaning.
I had only one candidate in this election whom I strongly supported.
I won't tell you who that was for fear of bringing much disapproval down
on my head. I will only tell you that I live in New York state and
I guess that is enough said.
Ran, I tried to stay out of this discussion, but I must confess that
I actually enjoy it.
Thanks again for the response.

No hatred or intended distortion on my part.
A vast part of our population, has become so enamored with the thinking
" it's the economy stupid", that most of them have totally ignored the
moral principals, that must accompany a true leader. I hear from
Mr Gore, some occasional ( when he is addressing certain groups) alluding
to his "principals", but, Isn't he the man, who took illegal campaign
contributions, that supported Clinton with "my friend the greatest president
ever", and took money for his own campaign from the rabid Hollywood left?
I will say when it comes to some of the stories about his lieing, they
are not all quite true, but plenty are. He is simply not presidential
material. And yes it is important who is our president. It
is much more than his "power" here. Our president is a reflection
of our country around the world
Do you really mean all this hatred and distortion.
has shown for all to see, just hat an egotistical fool he really is.
our republic, has hit a real low here.
