Is there a program available that would tie zip codes to USDA zonal maps.
This seems like it would help organize packing and shipping schedules to
coincide with safe outdoor planting times for cold sensitive plants anywhere
in the USA. It would at least give you target dates.
Probably a very old idea.

We do let the customer specify a ship period, but many of them don't do it.
The problem with encouraging the customer to call the date months in advance
is
that it ties your hands. If a customer in New York says ship the week of
May
15, he can count on getting them then even if it's snowing because we have
no
idea why he requested the date and can't second guess it. Some people have
second homes and are only there certain times, landscapers have schedules,
some
customers hire people to do their planting, and some people just pick a date
cause it sounds good. No way for me to tell, so the plants go out, and it I
can't ship then, they get a refund.
I would prefer to pick the date, but I really don't know when the weather
turns
in northern Indiana. Shipping late is not that big a problem, but shipping
early can be.
