Good question. The thought was that it was highly improbable to get a
variegated seedling from the seeds of H. sieboldiana 'Aureomarginata'(==, in
this case, 'Frances Williams').
Herb Benedict got one. ITS seeds have produced some real beauties, which are
stable; DB is not stable. I have a friend who has used DB seedlings in her
hybridizing programs--some great ones have been produced. (These are not on
the market. )
My suggestion: Get a DB seedling and go from there. I once had DB but it
"reverted" to 'Nifty Fifty' which is a very nice variegated.

N.B. The seeds of DB and DB seedlings are slow to germinate.
