The reason the suspect plant is rubbed on to another plant is to determine if
there is a virus or other pathogen causing the symptoms or conditions under
question.
The leaves of the suspect plants are gently ground with a pistil and mortar
and the juice is placed on a clean plant, if the symptoms of infection then
occur on the clean plant, the most likely cause is a virus or other pathogen.
