Hi Ingrid,
Hope this info helps:
Voodoo, dark red, black heart, Unique x Regal cross with mostly regal
characteristics, single flower, 50-60 cm size max., bred by Frances
Hartsook in California in the sixties. This late hybridizer crossed a
variety of Regals to P. Scarlet Unique to get Regal type plants that did
do better in sun and heat than most regals did outside in her sunny
county in the USA. She managed to do that very well and created cvs like
Carefree, Bolero, Hula, Voodoo etc. The plants are mostly classified
with the regals, some times some are found under "Uniques" or as "Mini
Regals". She also worked with Zonals and did bred some mini's as well
dabbled in Stellars when the first arrived from Australia to the USA.
Mrs. Hartsook is gone, so perhaps she once publicized in a USA magazine
her notes about how she created her bunch of Regal x Unique crosses and
what exact plants she used for the program and maybe some USA
subscribers on this list can locate these articles.
