[IGSrobin] tags...

I wonder how long shrink plastic or polyshrink would last? the written name is embedded into the plastic as it shrinks, and I've made items 10 years ago that are like new... though they don't sit in the sun...

there is even one that you can run on a desk jet, though I don't know how it compares for wear, have used it for jewelry and it does not seem as durable.

Its great to hear what works for the pro's. Somewhere in between lays an answer for all of us. I feel the longer the tag, the less you have to remove if you want to see the name.  Thanks for responding to all.

I have been told that the tags last for a long time, although they do get brittle eventually. I believe that you can buy Fogg-It Labels in regular nurseries, at least in Northern California. Tucking the tag down well into the container also helps to preserve them from sunlight.

I agree re the brittle tags.  I think I have found a source that are flexible, and will let you know after I have used them if they also become brittle. 
 
I find that even in the greenhouse, the permanent markers fade after a few years. Am now using pencil, though it can blur if rubbed. Maybe marker on one side, pencil on the other? It is a problem.  In the greenhouse, I try to keep the pots in sort of alpabetical order just in case as I will then have a better clue.
