| Dear Wendy:
This is really interesting. Can you give me a few more details. What do you use to write on the plastic. What would happen, inevitably, as the containers get watered? Do you cut off lengths of plastic. I use black and green containers - would the writing show up on dark colors? How would the plastic stay on the container?

I wonder how long shrink plastic or polyshrink would last? the written name is embedded into the plastic as it shrinks, and I've made items 10 years ago that are like new... though they don't sit in the sun... there is even one that you can run on a desk jet, though I don't know how it compares for wear, have used it for jewelry and it does not seem as durable.

THANKS!
Robin is always a wealth of
knowledge.
Sandy offered some great suggestions another fountain
of experience.
Its great to hear what works for the pro's. Somewhere
in between lays an answer for all of us. I feel the longer the tag, the less you
have to remove if you want to see the name. Thanks for responding to all.

I buy tags, 10,000 at a time, from Fogg-It Nozzle Company in
Belmont California for my nursery I use a .5mm lead pencil. I have been
told that the tags last for a long time, although they do get brittle
eventually. I believe that you can buy Fogg-It Labels in regular
nurseries, at least in Northern California. Tucking the tag down well
into the container also helps to preserve them from sunlight.

Hi, Joe,
I agree re the brittle tags. I think I have found a
source that are flexible, and will let you know after I have
used them if they also become brittle.
I find that even in the greenhouse, the permanent markers
fade after a few years. Am now using pencil, though it can blur
if rubbed. Maybe marker on one side, pencil on the other? It is
a problem. In the greenhouse, I try to keep the pots in
sort of alpabetical order just in case as I will then have a
better clue.
Hope all is well with you guys.

what is the best way to tag your plants. I have tried all
I think and they fade and the plastic gets brittle. Any
suggestions?
Thanks,
Joe

Hi- Nice to hear what other people have in their
collections. If you need more cuttings, come to South
Bay Geranium Society Oct. meeting. We're doing
propagation and everyone brings cuttings. I can send
you the newsletter if you want. Let me know.
