I ordered my first daylilies from Viette this year. Wonderful plants,
large and healthy, and already budding with 2-3 scapes per plant after
planting six weeks ago! Viette's other perennials are great, too.
I like daylilies mixed with other perennials - grasses, hostas,
echinacea, true lilies, sedums, etc. I find there is quite a difference
between cultivars in terms of foliage, number of scapes & buds, etc.
But most are great. For a pretty combination, try the small short
"Little Winecup" with the Asiatic lily "Shirley." The deep wine of
the daylily is echoed with rose-wine streaks on the buds of the lily,
which bloom in rich cream with a rosy flush. Lovely. A few clumps
of dark-leaved heuchera enhance the effect.
