Your answer is easy. There are daylilies that are NOCTURNAL. They start to
bloom the evening before and close the next evening. Most
daylilies open in the morning and close that evening. NO individual
bloom lasts more than a day. Your nursery is confusing daylilies,
species HEMEROCALLIS with true Lilies, species LILIUM. The main difference
is daylilies have ovaries behind the tepals and sepals,
whereas true lilies have them in front of the tepals and sepals. Daylilies,
once established are very draught tolerant, and weekly
applications of Miracle Gro will encourage them to rebloom.
As I type this, my 1998 daylily seedlings are blooming. Every day is
like Christmas when I see a new seedling blooming. I have several
perfect round pie crust ruffled creamy white with red eyes, and one that I
am keeping is 8, yes EIGHT inches, pink lavender with a purple
eye, a cross involving Paper Butterfly. Send for my trading and seed list
for this fall.
Cheers, Karl Dan
