streptocarpella has been considered a section of the genus
streptocarpus for a long time, however, recent studies have found out
that streptocarpella is actually more closely related to saintpaulia
than either is to streptocarpus! what it means is that in the future,
they will definitely take streptocarpella out of the streptocarpus
genus, or alternatively, all three will be under one genus (albeit
unlikely). i learned all of this in the discussions that have
happened in the gesneriphile forum.
as for culture, i understand that streptocarpella likes to be drier,
sunnier and cooler than AVs. a friend told me that they bloom in her
north window, although mine hasn't bloomed in my north window, even
though next to it is a streptocarpus in bloom right now.
