I'm also a novice African violet grower, but from my experience, and
recommendations I've received from other growers, lack of sufficient
light is usually the culprit for plants that don't bloom, although
making sure that the plants are getting fertilized properly helps also.
You may want to check the African Violet Society of America's (AVSA)
website at www.avsa.org. It has a lot of useful information on African
violet culture, as well as information about how to become a member -
one of the best perks of membership is a subscription to African Violet
Magazine, which is filled with wonderful articles on many different
aspects of African violet culture, with at least one column in each
issue specifically devoted to beginning growers. If you're interested,
you can also find out about joining a local AVSA affiliate, another
place to get lots of very good "hands-on" advice about growing AV's.
Good growing!
