To thosewho wrote for information on growing ferns: I've been growing many
types of ferns for the last 20 (or so) years and would recommend that you
consider the following:
1. The terms "lowlight " and "shade Plant" do not mean no light. You can't
just stick a fern in a dark corner and expect it to grow. They frequently
take more light than you might expect. Most of mine close to a wall of west
facing windows formost of the year. In summer, these windows are partially
shaded. Most north facing windows aretoo dark (at least here in Pittsburgh)
for many ferns.
2. Reasonable humidity (50%) is pretty much essential.
3. This is really a very varied family of plants and it pays to know exactly
what you are
growing.
4. Re: the above, the best resource I've found is "The Encyclopedia of
Ferns" by David Jones, published by Timber Press in 1989. It's well worth
buying if your really interested in ferns.
