Hello!
This is a fantastic day. My Sansevieria kirkii var. pulchra
(sorry, no common name available) is blooming with 2
inflorescences. It is utterly fascinating to watch the petals
unfold and curl downward to expose the stamens and pistil.
This plant was bought 6 years ago--I have no idea how old it was
then. It is very potbound now and seems to thrive this
way--sitting next to the southern window in my dining room. It
is exciting enough that my neighbor (good friend who loves
gardening) came over and is bringing her husband over later to
try to get some high quality photographs to post at the
sansevieria web site.
Sorry, if this seems a little disjointed--I am so excited I am
shaking--to actually watch an exotic flower open is breathtaking
to say the least. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT POLLINATES THESE IN THE
WILD?????? I am wondering if I can succeed in pollinating it and
getting some seed.
If anyone would like to visit my web page on Sansevierias, go
to:

I'll post pictures as soon as I get the film developed. This
surely has brightened a very dreary, cloudy day in MI.
