Sorry this message is late but my computer has been down for 10 days
(the monitor blew up & we had to wait til we got the parts & a xeroxed
copy of the schematic for $ 50.00, what a rip! We are in the tv repair
business), anyway, bird of paradise, I have had mine well over 10 years,
and for the past 10 years, it has been potbound in a metal bucket.  It
bloomed twice this year and I have a nice photo of the flower at my
personal website: http://www.epix.net/~jshowers/  It is my understanding
that these plants have to have at least 7 leaves to bloom.  Judy Showers
