Two suggestions . . . first, tobasco. Smear just a smidgen around around the edge of the pot or box, whichever applies. They'll just die (not literally) the first time they walk across it (mine did). Also, try a squirt gun for houseplants (because you are there to see the deed often enough to make an impression).
One other idea is catnip. Now, I do not know if this is crazy because I've never tried it, but you could stick a catnip in at the end of your garden, and maybe it will serve as a decoy? Just a thought . . .
