Re: Draft

In part it depends how wide a frosted window (most the ones I`m
thinking of are maybe 4-8"), which way it faces, whether it`s shaded
by a porch or trees. Sounds like it could be a real low-light situation.

One possibility for both low light (but not NO light) and cold drafts,
assuming you've got say 18" or so of width to give it, would be Japanese
Holly Fern - Cyrtomium falcatum (falcate = sickle-shaped, a pretty good
description of the basic shape of the leathery, very un-"fern"-like leaves
of this (?) z7-8 hardy plant.

Mostly you'll find 'Rochebraunianum" or something like that, which has
a little more incised leaves, but basically it's just a very elegant dark
green plant. Re the light situation: being almost hardy this could spend a
lot more of the spring & fall outdoors if necessary.

Leathery leaves as I noted, but like most other ferns (or many other
plants for that matter) it would prefer not necessarily cold drafts but
cooler than living room temperatures and some humidity.
