Hi John,

You know, I really do not do much different than you for those cacti. I
remember one year, I turned the shriveled plant out of the pot and looked
at the roots. 
I could see that there is not much roots left. I think, the plants are
dying because the roots rot. The only thing is I don't know why the roots
rot. I really know better than to seriously overwater anything , let alone
cacti. 
But, I'm going to experiment this year. Since they are epiphytes, I will
repot this plant in the bark for orchids. It will probably need watering
every day, just like it would be in the rain forest. But so be it.
I will let you know of the results.
