RE: orchids and other houseplants
Frank, the point is not to give the slugs a treat, but rather to intoxicate
them so they leave your plants alone. I think they pass out, but the beer
doesn't kill them. I have never actually seen a hungover slug, but I can't
imagine he'd have much energy to munch on your tulips with all that liquor
in them.

As a recovered alcoholic ( I pray ) and a dyed in the wool slug hater I say
" If beer makes them sick, feed them whisky and hope they die ! "
( I think they pass out and drown in the beer or maybe the beer kills them.
Anyway you just need to go out each day, pour the contents of the saucer
into the trash ( slugs and beer ), and refill the saucer.)
