Carl's advice is good stuff to remember, one needs to do this now and then.
However I have a different suggestion.
Since the Christmas cactus is in season now and many hybrids are in the
stores, why not buy a few new ones and start over. The cost is small and
whatever is wrong with you present plant it remains that you may never
diagnose it.
The other advice on cool nights for bud formation is excellent. We are seeing
some experienced hands on indoor gardens.
