thanks for your input, terry -- and sorry for not having any more seeds for
you :-(
i try to keep my Curcuma sp. Sleeping Princess moist, but i also get browing
and drying up of the leaf edges, which i think is due to too much water.
however, they don't like to dry up either. so it's a tough balancing act. i
heard someone tell me they are difficult to grow even in the south.
i'm going to try fertilizing them more and see what happens. maybe next year
i'll get Curcuma alismatifolia (Thai Tulip) which is being mass produced in
various shades of pink for the cut flower market. the rhizomes are at least
the cheapest and most available of all species.
does anyone else have experiences with gingers?
tsuh yang chen, nyc (looking forward to spring already -- not much in bloom
except for some begonias, gesneriads, orchids, rhipsalis, christmas cactus and
bougainvillea)
