Wet feet: Ferns and Venus Fly Traps

I have two questions, and would appreciate any help.

1. Fern lovers, I have a bird's nest fern (sorry, don't know the latin
name) that has decided to make large numbers of spores. Can I sprout
these in a reasonable ammount of time without flasking them? If so, how?

2. One of my venus fly traps is producing an odd little protuberance from
a hole in the bottom of its pot. Now, I know its a healthy plant, so my
best guess is the structure is a rhizome or something of that nature.
There is a little root coming with it, but because of the way it is
formed, I'm not sure its a rhizome. It almost looks like a rosebud
(imagination!). What do you guys think it is? Does this simply indicate
a need for repotting? And on that note, how do I know when and if these
things need repotting?

Thanks for any help!!
Julia
