Hello!
Just thought I would introduce myself - My name is Andrea and I just joined
this list this morning.
I live in Montreal, Quebec and am an avid plant owner. I have, or at
least HAD over 180 plants in my 5-1/2 room apartment. I say HAD because
that was before the lovely little ice storm we experienced about a month
ago. I was without power / heat for over a week and, unfortunately, since
the temperature in my place went down to about 7 degrees celcius (that's
about 44 degrees farenheit), I lost quite a few of my plants. I had over
40 african violets but was only able to salvage about 10 after the cold
front. (Needless to say, I will be spending the next few months
replenishing the loss.)
I was, however, surprised to see which plants were susceptible and which
ones weren't. Surprisingly, my dieffenbachias, spathiphyllums (peace lily)
and syngoniums (arrowheads) were almost completely destroyed (must be an
"aroid" thing!), and yet my bougainvillea is in perfect shape and blooming
as if it were mid-summer! Go figure.
Looking forward to participating in this list!
