Re: Unusual plants grown indoors
Hi Everyone:
I like this thread introduced by Ruth as to which plants we go which
might be considered rare. Aside from the rare gesneriads I grow, I do
have a couple of unusual perrenials which I grow indoors during the
winter, and Spring/Summer out of doors on my patio.
Ligularia tussilaginea aurea-maculata. The "Leopard Plant" is a long
time favorite with house plant growers as well as the outdoor gardener
with a sheltered place to plant this very pretty plant. It does fine as
a house plant.
Phyllostachys nigra.
"Black Bamboo" (China)is a slow-growing, running bamboo to 15 feet tall.
Canes grow in green and turn black in their second year, and when mature
can reach a diameter of 1 1/2 inch. Hardy to 0 degrees F. Protect from
hot direct summer sun inland and from reflected heat along the coast. A
great specimen plant for a container.
I am very interested in what unusual plants others grow.
Thanks, Ruth for a great topic.
