Lee Valley Tools has two books available for helping out with Latin names.
One is _Gardener's Latin_, I forget the other. Check out www.leevalley.com
and request a catalogue.
I had an interesting experience with a neighbor's mother. The mother spoke
only Russian, so I couldn't understand a single word. I learned a little
French in school, and I know that several languages share common roots in
Latin and Greek, but Russian didn't evolve from the same languages. Then we
discovered that we both knew the latin names of many plants so I could tell
her what was starting to grow, and where I had things planted. It was neat
that our only common language was flowers!
