I never keep my orchids in cache pots except when they are blooming and I want
to bring them from the greenhouse tothe house to show. Even then I try to
put somehting at the bottom of the cache pot (gravel) to catch the extra
water. The roots will rot if over watered. Orchids should be watered early
in the day and allowed to drain well and the water removed. If fertilizing,
do so later after you've watered for best result, that is the first watering
shld not contain fertilizer as the first waters run out quickly, after
saturation of the planting medium, the roots absorb the fertilizer better (in
my experience). The leaves should not go into cooler temp or the dark being
wet--that's one of the reason you need circulation, to permit drying of
leaves.
I have a greenhouse-garden room with a slate floor and water with a hose,
fertilize with a bottle. I have two fans going all the time. Hope this helps.
