is rather a secret just creeping out. They have splendid plants much of the
time. And the choices vary literally from week to week. Often, we pick up
lovely and unusual plants for a little bit of nothing -- ones we don't have
or
are out of. I got some 20 to 30 orchids there this week -- several different
genera, and some striking pink and white, small growing pepperomias! I was
not needing any, but the African violets were beautiful, all in full bloom

Hi Jim Mckinney's Glassehouse:

We had some discussion on orchids a while back with good advice on hybrids.

There are SO MANY species available with their many hybrids, I am in a state
of confusion on culture.

At the HD in our area there were flowers of all shapes and colors. I think the
species were probably limited to 3 common ones but in hybrid form were varied
and so inviting to the indoor gardener. The fellow shopper that advised me
was also a greenhouse operator who had come a distance for additional stock.

Do you think these orchids come from Florida and do you think next year's
bloom will be in the same months? Jim are you in the north?

A question for Jim or any orchid growers on ventilation. All of my references
mention good ventilation around the roots for epiphytes. Often they are
pictured hanging in orchid pots with openings at the base of the pots.

Would putting my new favorite in a cache pot on my glassroom desk (light from
skylight) deprive it of the ventilation needed?

If the sun does not shine here in New York pretty soon, I am going back to
Home Depot and pick up a few more orchids. For a season lift throughout
thedark months this is a fine resource. Jim are you mailorder?
